Exhibition centers of Almaty -
Where fairs and exhibitions are held in Almaty -
The Atakent Kazakhstan Business Cooperation Center is the country's largest exhibition and congress complex located in the southwestern part of Almaty. It is considered the main center of business activity in Kazakhstan and a place where business, innovation and international cooperation combine. Atakent has become a symbol of modern business Kazakhstan, open to partnership, ideas and development. This is not just an exhibition complex, but a real city within a city, the epicenter of business and cultural life not only in Kazakhstan, but throughout Central Asia.
The center has exhibition halls, conference halls, business centers, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, as well as a large green park where you can stroll after the events. The complex offers a beautiful mountain panorama of the Trans-Ili Alatau Mountains, which are the hallmark of the city. Today, Atakent hosts dozens of international exhibitions, forums, fairs and conferences annually, bringing together participants from more than fifty countries around the world.
At first glance, it may seem that Atakent is a place exclusively for businessmen. However, for the modern traveler, especially interested in culture, economics and innovation, this center opens up unique opportunities, and here you can visit: cultural and national exhibitions, international events and gastronomic festivals.
History
The history of the complex began in the 1950s, when the famous Exhibition Complex of Achievements of the National Economy of the Kazakh SSR (VDNH KazSSR) was created on this site. At that time it was a grandiose project designed to show the achievements of Soviet Kazakhstan in industry, agriculture, science and culture. Following the example of the Moscow VDNH (exhibition of achievements of the national economy), pavilions were built here, symbolizing branches of the national economy, decorated with bas-reliefs, national ornaments and sculptures.
After the collapse of the USSR in the 1990s, the exhibition lost its former importance, but soon its territory was transformed into a modern business cooperation center - Atakent. It was the first enterprise in independent Kazakhstan to combine exhibition, commercial and scientific and technical activities.
Since then, Atakent has become a venue for the first major international exhibitions in Kazakhstan, business forums and presentations of new technologies. Today, events in various fields are taking place here – from agriculture and construction to IT, tourism and energy.
Architecture
The Atakent complex occupies a huge territory of more than 65 hectares. Its architecture combines Soviet monumentality and modern functionalism. The old pavilions, built in the 1960s and 70s, retained elements of national decor, arched entrances and high facades decorated with bas-reliefs with motifs of Kazakh ornaments. The new buildings and pavilions are decorated in a modern style with glass facades, lighting structures and open spaces.
An extensive green park with alleys, ponds and fountains creates a special atmosphere. In spring and summer, open-air festivals and fairs are held here, and in winter, a festive Christmas tree is often installed on the central square and city events are held. The entrance to the complex is decorated with a huge gate in the form of 5 arched openings 20 meters high.

Legend and significance for the city
There is an unspoken legend that Atakent stands on the place where the caravans of the Great Silk Road stopped in ancient times. They say that it was here that travelers exchanged goods and news, and then the journey continued further south and east. Therefore, it is said that the spirit of trade and cooperation has been living in this place for centuries.
Today, Atakent is indeed a kind of continuation of this tradition – a meeting place for people, ideas and cultures. For Almaty, it has become not only a business center, but also a space for communication, relaxation and inspiration.
