Evening walk through the city center of Almaty -
Soviet-era architectural solutions in the southern capital -
The Palace of the Republic is one of the most iconic and recognizable buildings in Almaty, a symbol of cultural life and architectural boldness of the Soviet era. It is located at the foot of the Trans-Ili Alatau, on Dostyk Avenue, and its expressive shape has long become an integral part of the image of Almaty. The construction of the palace was carried out in the 1960s and 1970s, and in 1970 it was inaugurated as the Lenin Palace. The authors of the project, architects N. Ripinsky, Y. Ratushny, A. G. Sokolov and others, were inspired by the idea of creating a building that would combine modernity and national elements. As a result, the Palace of the Republic has become one of the best examples of 20th century architecture in Kazakhstan. The architecture of the building is a vivid example of Soviet modernism, which incorporated elements of the national Kazakh decor: ornaments on the facades, mosaic panels, sculptural compositions symbolizing labor, culture and unity of peoples. The height of the building is about 50 meters, and its central dome and monumental facades make it the dominant feature of Abai Avenue. There is a monument to Abai Kunanbayev on the square in front of the building, and the famous Kazakhstan Hotel is located a little lower. There is also the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan in the immediate vicinity of the palace on Kurmangazy Street, and next to the academy in a small park there is a monument to Alexander Pushkin and the Zodiac Signs fountain (Zodiac Signs).

Information -
The main facade of the Palace of the Republic is decorated with a monumental glass panel and a massive canopy, and the building itself seems to "float" above the ground thanks to successful design solutions. Special attention is paid to the interiors: spacious foyers, large marble staircases, stained glass windows and decorative panels create an atmosphere of solemnity. The hall is designed for more than 3,000 spectators and is equipped with modern acoustics and lighting equipment, which allows concerts, theatrical performances, state celebrations and international forums. Over the years, world stars and the best bands of Kazakhstan have performed here, significant political congresses, festive events and cultural festivals have been held. The Palace of the Republic has become the real "heart" of Almaty's cultural life, retaining this role in independent Kazakhstan. The building is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national importance. After the reconstruction, it received updated technical capabilities, while retaining its recognizable architectural appearance.
