Saken Seifullin Park

Parks in the northern part of Almaty -

Sights of the Turksib district -

Saken Seifullin Park is a cozy green corner in Almaty, dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Kazakh poet, writer and public figure. It is located in the Turksib district of the city, near the Almaty-1 railway station, and is an important cultural and historical space for residents and guests of the metropolis. It's not big, but it's cozy, and you can stop here for an hour or two to walk along the alleys, inhale the scent of poplars and imagine how Seifullin himself saw Kazakhstan.

This is not just a square, but a real "green cabinet" in the open air, dedicated to one of the brightest minds of Kazakh literature, Saken Seifulin. A park where the rustle of leaves resembles turning pages, and the benches still seem to be filled with the spirit of creativity and free-thinking. Today, the park is maintained in good condition, but needs further development. Perhaps in the future there will be new art objects dedicated to literature, exhibition areas or outdoor reading areas.

The park's territory is landscaped – poplars, maples, and fir trees grow here, and in summer the entire space is surrounded by greenery. Paths lead to quiet corners where you can sit on a bench, read a book or just enjoy the silence.

History

The Park was founded in Soviet times in 1950 and has since become one of the key green areas of the Turksib district. During the Soviet period, the city actively developed a system of public parks as an element of the "cultural life" of citizens. The formation of a regular park with alleys, lawns, fountains and recreation areas began here. Today it is a landscaped space with shady alleys, playgrounds and places to relax. The central point of the park is the fountain, which is open in the summer. In 2021, the park was renovated, bike paths were added, and a new skatepark was built. New benches were also installed and new asphalt was laid, young trees were planted.

Who is Saken Seifullin?

Saken Seifullin (1894-1938) was one of the founders of modern Kazakh literature. He was not only a poet and writer, but also a statesman, teacher, and social thinker. His work glorified the beauty of his native land, freedom and labor, as well as the ideas of national revival. Seifullin became a symbol of the new Kazakh literature of the 20th century, although his life was tragically cut short during the years of Stalinist repression. His memory lives on in books, streets, schools and, of course, in the park that bears his name.
