Observation deck in the Presidential Park

A unique vantage point for the capital's main symbols, a place for photo shoots -

Where to walk and what to see in the capital of Kazakhstan, popular places -

The observation deck is one of the youngest and most sought-after locations in Presidential Park, offering visitors a breathtaking view of the Ishim River (embankment) and the surrounding masterpieces of world architecture. Situated on an elevation, this deck was conceived as a place where every guest can appreciate the scale and harmony of the park complex, as well as see the unique layout in the shape of the mythical Samruk bird, which is not visible from regular walking paths.

From here, a perfect perspective opens up to the snow-white pyramid of the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, the golden towers of the government quarter, and futuristic residential complexes. The deck serves as an ideal conclusion to a walk through the park, allowing guests to slow down for a moment and enjoy the play of light on the river's water surface.

This is a point of attraction for professional photographers and couples in love, where the modern urbanism of Astana meets the endless sky and the freshness of the steppe wind.

History

The observation deck was opened as part of a large-scale reconstruction of Presidential Park, which was completed in May 2021. The idea of creating a special vantage point arose during the implementation of a project to unite the capital's park zones into a single "green belt."

Architects sought to create an object that would not only fulfill a functional role but also become an important aesthetic addition to the existing landscape, emphasizing the grandeur of the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation.

In a short time, the deck became a cult location. In 2024–2025, decorative fencing elements were updated here and additional information stands were installed, telling about the objects visible from the height. The deck symbolizes the openness of the capital and its desire to create a comfortable urban environment where architectural thought is directed toward human interaction with space. Today, it is an essential point on any tourist route along the left bank of Astana.

Information

The construction of the deck is made of durable materials resistant to the sharp temperature changes of the capital's climate. The surface of the deck and the stairs harmonize with the overall style of the park, using light granite and modern composite materials. For the convenience of visitors, benches and a modern lighting system have been installed here, making the stay at height safe in the evening. A lilac garden is planted near the deck, which fills the air with a delicate aroma during its blooming period.

The infrastructure around the observation zone includes signs in three languages and relaxation areas. The deck is integrated into the park's network of running and cycling paths, making it a popular stop for lovers of an active lifestyle. The technical condition of the object is regularly checked by city services, and cleanliness is maintained as part of the daily care of the Presidential Park territory. Public toilets with the possibility of cashless payment are also located nearby.

Detailed description of the object

Access to the observation deck is organized via gentle steps and ramps, making the location accessible to all categories of citizens. A circular panorama opens from the top vantage point: the Hazret Sultan Mosque rises to the east, the Ak Orda Residence to the west, and right before your eyes lies the "Arkhar" bridge, connecting the two banks of the Ishim.

In the summer period, one can observe the movement of pleasure boats along the river and the operation of the park's cascading fountains from here.

Particular attention is drawn to the design of the observation zone itself – it is engineered not to disturb the natural landscape of the park but to complement it. In the evening, the deck is illuminated with soft warm light, creating a cozy atmosphere for long conversations.

Thanks to its fortunate location, a light breeze from the river is always felt here, providing relief from the summer heat. This place is ideal for seeing Astana as if in the palm of your hand – modern, bold, and yet very green.

Architecture

The architectural solution of the observation deck is executed in a minimalist style with eco-design elements. The main emphasis is on the lightness of structures and the panoramic nature of the view. The geometric forms of the deck echo the strict lines of the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, creating a unified visual dialogue with it. The use of natural stone in the cladding emphasizes the connection with nature, while the metal details of the railings add an urban accent. The deck is organically integrated into the hilly relief of the park, acting as its natural culmination.

Legend

Among Astana residents, there is a legend that the observation deck in Presidential Park is the "Point of Clarity." They say that if you come up here with a difficult question or an unresolved task and spend a few minutes in silence, looking at the flow of the Ishim, the right decision will come by itself.
Lovers believe that if you make a wish at the moment the sun disappears behind the horizon and the first lights come on at the "Ak Orda" towers, it will definitely come true under the protection of the Samruk bird's wings.

It is believed that from this height, one can feel the pulse of the city and its true spirit, uniting the energy of the steppe and the power of innovations. Visiting the deck is often called a "moment above the bustle," where everyone can find their inspiration and feel the scale of the achievements of a great country. This is a place where legends of the celestial guardian come to life in every gust of wind, reminding of eternity and constant movement forward.
