The Altyn-Emel reserve is filled with all sorts of sights, including ancient cultural monuments such as the Oshaktas steles. Stelae are vertically dug stones, representing a kind of central place on the mountain plain.

This monument is located in the Altyn-Emel nature reserve on the Kalkany plain, in the Almaty region, Kerbulak district.
Oshaktas stone steles - legends.
According to one of the legends, in 1219, the food of the war of the great conqueror Genghis Khan was prepared on these stones; an iron cauldron was installed on the stones, in which food for the entire army was prepared. According to another version, this place was used for making a fire to give a sign in the form of smoke about the approach of the enemy.
