Medeu (Medeo) is a high-mountain tract, a resort area, located at an altitude of 1500 to 1800 meters above sea level in the valley of the Bolshaya Almatinka River (Big Almaty) and the Butakovka River, a place for leisure away from the city and a place for active recreation. The famous Medeu sports complex is located in the tract, where a skating rink operates in winter. Also here is the Medeu mudflow protection dam, on which there is a staircase by which you can climb the dam. From the Medeu tract up the Bolshoy Almatinskoe gorge (Big Almaty), a cable car was built, on which you can climb to the Shymbulak ski base, the cable car also works in the summer, on it you can climb to the Bolshoy Talgar (Big) pass, which is located at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level. Also, in the upper reaches of the tract is the Mynjylky tract.

The Medeu tract is located 16 kilometers from Almaty along Nazarbayev Avenue, in the Zailiyskiy Alatau Mountains, Medeu district, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Medeu tract is very picturesque, you can get here both in summer and winter, and in autumn the tract becomes incredibly beautiful. Autumn colors envelop the tract and people come here to take incredibly beautiful photos. In autumn, red, yellow, orange and green colors predominate in the tract. The tract is located in the forest-steppe and mountain forest area, here grows the Tien Shan spruce, aspen, hawthorn, rowan, birch. In the tract there is a birch grove, which is also a natural landmark, this grove is especially beautiful in the summer and autumn. Since 2006, the Medeu tract as a geomorphological object has been included in the list of objects of the state nature reserve fund of Kazakhstan of national importance. Since 1980, the tract has been part of the Medeu administrative district of Almaty. 21 thousand hectares of Medeu territory are allocated for recreation area. The highway to the Mynjylky tract passes through the Medeu tract.
