The most convenient mountain locations to visit in the Small Almaty Gorge -
Amangeldy Peak is a mountain peak located at an altitude of 3999 meters above sea level in the Trans Ili-Alatau Mountains. The peak is very popular among outdoor enthusiasts, mountain hikers and mountaineers, difficulty category 1B-2B. The ascent to the peak begins from the Alpingrad mountain glade, where an intermediate camp is usually set up in which to spend the night before climbing to the top. You can get to the glade from the Shymbulak high-mountain base through the Tuyuk-Su Gate and Mynzhilky tract. You can also climb Amangeldy Peak from the Tuyuk-Su alpine camp, the ascent takes 7-8 hours one way. Please note that climbing the peak requires good physical fitness, the ability to work in a team, and the ability to work with special mountaineering equipment such as: climbing devices, descending devices, safety equipment, rope, helmet, carabiners, etc. The peak offers a beautiful mountain panorama of the Ile-Alatau Park, the Bogdanovich Glacier and Lake Manshuk Mametova and the Manshuk Mametova Peak are clearly visible.
Amengeldy Peak was named after Amangeldy Imanov, he was a revolutionary Kazakh leader of the Central Asian Uprising of 1916 in Kazakhstan. He subsequently fought with the Red Army and was killed under unclear circumstances in April 1919. Since then, he has become a Kazakh national hero for his leadership of the uprising. The first ascent to the peak was made in 1939 by a group of climbers led by V. Zimin.

When hiking to Amangeldy Peak, be sure to use the services of certified mountain guides. Mountain guides will prepare you for the hike, instruct you and safely lead you along the route. Do not hike alone, do not leave the trail (route), do not come close to rocky cliffs, snow cornices, turbulent rivers and mountain lakes. Correctly calculate your physical strength for being in the mountains, if you feel unwell, know how to stop in time and turn back, inform the mountain guide about your condition. Watch the weather and choose clear sunny days for your trip. During the hike, always stay in a group so that everyone is always in sight of each other, always wait for those who lag behind. Do not walk in the mountains at night and in the dark. Calculate your time in the mountains wisely, try to return in the afternoon before dusk and complete darkness, be sure to consult with mountain guides about this. For hiking in the mountains, use special sportswear and equipment. Do not go to the mountains in flip-flops, slippers and light soft shoes, take care of your feet, your feet should be protected by reliable mountain shoes for trekking and hiking with ankle fixation. Do not forget about altitude sickness and the need for acclimatization in a mountainous area, for further comfortable stay in the mountains. Also in the spring (May) there are ticks in the mountains, we recommend not to visit the mountains during this period.
