Architectural sights of Alma Ata -
The Republican House of Friendship is one of the most symbolic places in the city, reflecting the rich multinational culture of Kazakhstan. Previously, this institution was called the "House of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries." It was built in 1972 and was originally conceived as a meeting place and interaction place for various ethnocultural associations. More than thirty national cultural centers are united here under one roof, representing the traditions, customs and art of various ethnic groups living in the country.
The building is located in the center of Almaty city next to Tulebayeva Street, and from the very first steps it impresses with its architecture. Its monumental appearance with elements of Soviet modernism and expressive facade is recognizable from afar. The House of Friendship includes numerous national and cultural associations: Kazakhs, Russians, Uighurs, Koreans, Germans, Ukrainians and many others. Each team holds its own festivals, concerts, exhibitions, workshops and festive events, presenting its culture and introducing residents of Almaty and visitors to the richness of traditions. Spacious halls, exhibition spaces, stages and conference halls allow for a wide variety of events: concerts, festivals, theatrical productions, exhibitions and fairs.
History
The history of the building of the House of Friendship in Almaty is a story of recognized architectural success. Its construction was completed in 1972, and a whole team of talented specialists worked on the project.
The design team of the Almatagiprogor Institute was composed by architects R. A. Seidalilin, L. A. Timchenko and H. A. Yakupbayev, who developed the artistic appearance of the building. The engineering part responsible for reliability and design was provided by A. A. Furduy and Yu.K. Krasikov. The construction and installation department of SMU KHOZU UD of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR was directly engaged in the construction of the facility.
The importance and high quality of this architectural work were noted at the state level just two years later. In 1974, the authors of the project were awarded the Chokan Valikhanov State Prize of the Kazakh SSR in the field of architecture, which became an official confirmation of the importance of the building for the cultural and social life of the republic.
