Biokombinat Square in Almaty

Green oasis of tranquility amidst the urban rhythm -

Parks and squares of Almaty -

The Biokombinat Park is a cozy green recreation area in the city center of Almaty, located near the industrial complex of the same name. Despite the fact that this square is not as famous as the central Botanical Park or the park of the 28 Panfilov Guards, for residents of the southwestern outskirts it is a real gem of the Almaly district.

Those who appreciate silence, trees, fresh air and simple human communication come here. The square is located away from busy highways, so it is especially quiet here: you can hear birds singing, the sound of foliage and children's voices coming from the playground. This is one of those places where the city seems to slow down, allowing a person to exhale and just enjoy the moment. Not far from the square is the Mukhtar Auezov Theater, the Mukhtar Auezov monument, the Almaty Circus and the Esentai River embankment.

History and origin of the name

The square got its unusual name from a nearby enterprise, the Almaty Bio-processing Plant, founded in the middle of the 20th century. The plant was engaged in the production of biological products for agriculture and veterinary medicine, and was one of the largest enterprises of this profile in the Soviet Union.

Gradually, a residential area grew around the enterprise, and with it there was a need for a green recreation area for employees and their families. So, in the 1970s and 1980s, a public garden was laid out on an empty plot of land, which became a kind of center of public life in the area.

According to one of the sources, this household factory was called Krasny Trudovik. Until 1990, the company was completely liquidated and demolished. Now only the square, which bears the name "Bytkombinat", will fall off from this enterprise.

The modern look of the square

Today, the Biocombinat is a well-groomed and cozy green area with wide alleys, flower beds and benches. Here you can often see mothers with children, the elderly, young people walking in the evenings, and athletes jogging in the morning.

In recent years, the territory of the park has been partially landscaped: new lanterns, a playground, comfortable paths for walking, and a football field have appeared. In spring and summer, it is especially beautiful here, chestnuts bloom, poplars provide shade, and the grass is covered with a soft carpet.

The square is not distinguished by pomp, but this is its charm: it remains a "people's park", where everything is simple, homely and cozy in Almaty.
