Singing Dune (Singing Sands)

The phenomenon of ringing sands or singing sands -

Jeep tour to the Singing Dune in the Altyn Emel Park -

Singing Dune is the name of a sand dune formed by sand from the shallows of the Ili River, which flows next to the dune. The dune is famous for the fact that when a strong wind blows in the area, particles of its sand, due to movement and friction against each other, create an unusual drawn-out sound (hum), which is heard on the dune itself as a sound and is felt by feet as a vibration. The sound resembles the sound of a pipe, or the sound of an organ. Even if the wind is not blowing, this sound can be created artificially. To do this, two or three people need to gather into a group and run down the dune (dune), and the sound will appear, but for a short time. When a strong wind blows, the hum becomes stable and very long. The sound from the dune is especially well heard at night at a distance of 2 to 3 kilometers, when a cold night wind blows from the east.

How to get there, visit -

Information -

The Singing Dune is 150 meters high, 3 kilometers long, and 1-1.5 kilometers wide. As a result of the constantly changing direction of the wind blowing from the Kalkan Mountains, the grains of sand sifted and formed a hill consisting of a unique sand mixture. From above, the dune resembles a frozen sandworm, which hid under the sand and rests like in the famous movie Dune. Scientists say that the sound from the dune is formed by the friction of sand grains against each other. Perhaps this is so, but this effect is observed only in this place. There are no other such observations in deserts and where there are similar sand formations of such a sound. Esotericists believe that the Singing Dune is a magical place and a place of power. The Singing Dune is included in the list of the "Seven New Wonders of the World". There is an established fact that the sound is produced only by a dry mass of sand, when it rains in the area of the singing dune and the sand gets wet, the sound disappears. From the top of the Singing Dune, a beautiful view of the surrounding area opens up, from it you can see the Ili River, the Sogety and Boguty mountains and the Ketmen mountain range.
