Relict forest on the territory of Charyn National Park -
Trip to the natural attractions of the Almaty region -
The Charyn "ash grove" is one of the most unique and carefully protected places in the Charyn National Park. Here, against the backdrop of dry steppes, rocks and canyons, as if by chance, but in fact naturally, a living corner of antiquity has been preserved - a grove that is millions of years old. This place is called a natural relic, and for good reason: the Sogdian ash that grows here survived the Ice Age and remained virtually unchanged. The whole world knows about this tree, but in the wild it grows only here - in Kazakhstan. The Charyn ash grove looks magical. The trunks of old trees, gnarled branches, shade, coolness - all this contrasts sharply with the surrounding hot, dry landscape. The ash grove is located in the floodplain of the Charyn River, where tugai forests still remain. It has its own atmosphere: the humidity is higher, the air is thick, the greenery is rich. This place seems to hold the breath of the past - everything here lives slowly, confidently, as if it knows what has passed through the centuries. We recommend visiting this magical place in the spring, when nature here blossoms and is filled with an abundance of colors, and in the fall, when the grove is painted in a bright orange color. In 1964, the grove was given a special status - a natural monument.
In the heart of the ash grove, three cozy guest houses are hidden, available for rent to everyone. The former dacha of Dinmukhamed Kunayev has a special charm - a historical building where the prominent Soviet leader once rested. All houses are fully equipped and offer:
• Comfortable accommodation in the atmosphere of a relic forest
• Full three meals a day with national cuisine
• A unique opportunity to spend the night among ancient ash trees
Prices remain affordable, given the exclusivity of the place and its historical value. It is especially pleasant to stay here in the off-season, when centuries-old trunks are visible through the wooden frames, and in the mornings there is a smell of smoke from the stove and freshly baked flatbreads.
