Information -

The Manshuk Mametova Glacier is named after Manshuk Zhiengalikiza Mametova, the first Kazakh girl to be awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism during the Great Patriotic War. She served as a machine gunner in the 21st Guards Rifle Division and showed incredible courage in the battles for the liberation of Soviet land from the Nazi invaders. In October 1943, in the battle for the city of Nevel (Pskov region) Manshuk, left alone at the machine gun, continued to fire until she died. Her feat became an example of perseverance and courage.
The Manshuk Mametova Glacier is of scientific interest because in recent decades its area has been gradually decreasing due to global warming. Researchers regularly conduct observations here, studying the rate of ice melting and changes in the structure of the glacier. These data help predict climate change and develop strategies for the conservation of the region's water resources. The glacier, like many other glaciers in the world, plays an important role in the ecosystem of the region. It is a source of fresh water for the rivers and lakes that feed the surrounding valleys. However, like many glaciers, it is affected by global climate change, which makes its conservation an important task for future generations.
The Manshuk Mametova Glacier is not only a natural wonder, but also a reminder of the heroism that inspires us even decades later. Visiting such places, we not only admire the beauty of nature, but also pay tribute to those who gave their lives for the peaceful sky above. The glacier attracts not only climbers and explorers, but also those who want to feel connected to history. This is a place where nature and memory merge together, reminding that even in the harshest conditions a person is able to show incredible strength of spirit.
