New monuments in Almaty and the region -

Where to walk and what to see in Almaty -

The monument-obelisk to the soldiers who liquidated the Chernobyl disaster is located in the cozy Akhmet Baitursynov square next to the Nikolsky Cathedral, the monument is dedicated to the heroes whose exploits should not be forgotten. This monument was erected in April 2016 and became a sign of deep gratitude to the Kazakhs who, in the terrible days of 1986, went to the most dangerous zone on Earth to fight the invisible and deadly threat - radiation.

The obelisk in Baitursynov Square to the soldiers who liquidated the Chernobyl disaster is a modest, but deeply powerful monument. It is made of dark granite, symbolizing fortitude, courage and pain. Words of gratitude to the liquidators are carved on the surface of the obelisk, and each word echoes gratitude in the hearts of descendants. Trees are planted next to the obelisk, as a living symbol of rebirth and life, which the liquidators sacrificed in order to preserve it for future generations. The installation location was not chosen by chance: the Akhmet Baitursynov Square itself is associated with memory, culture and history. Here, among the alleys and benches, every passerby can stop, think and pay tribute to those who, without thinking about themselves, embarked on the path of heroism. Today, the monument has become an important part of the city's memory of Almaty. Memorial events are held here, flowers are laid, relatives and comrades of the liquidators gather to remember those who did not return and thank those who remained in the ranks, despite the trials. The Chernobyl disaster, which occurred on April 26, 1986, was the largest man-made tragedy of the 20th century. Thousands of people from all over the Soviet Union, including more than 30 thousand Kazakhstanis, participated in the liquidation of its consequences. They worked in the most difficult conditions, often without adequate protection, risking their lives and health to save millions.

The obelisk monument to the soldiers who liquidated Chernobyl is a reminder of the price of courage, the strength of the human spirit and that a feat knows no time.
