Monuments to poets and singers of Kazakhstan -

Tour and guided tour of the monuments of Almaty -

The monument to Dzhambul Dzhabayuly (monument to Zhambyl Zhabayev) is installed in the very heart of Almaty on Dostyk Avenue. The monument is dedicated to the national poet, whose name has become a symbol of the spiritual wealth and wisdom of the Kazakh people. The sculpture perpetuates the image of the improvisational singer, who embodied the connection of generations and the deep power of oral poetry. Zhambyl is depicted in full height, sitting in the traditional "akyna" pose and looking into the distance, in his left hand he holds the Kazakh national instrument – the dombra, his right hand rests on his right knee. The image of dombra in Zhambyl's hand is a detail that emphasizes his main purpose – to be the voice of the people, the guardian of the song and poetic tradition. Akin's face is conveyed with special expressiveness: a calm, focused look reflects the wisdom and inner strength of a man who has lived a long and eventful life. There is a small fountain next to the monument, which revives the image of Zhambyl, immortalized in the monument. In total, there are two monuments to Zhambyl in Almaty, one is described above, the second monument, the bust of Zhambyl, is located on Kabanbai Batyr Street in the park (square) at the Abai Opera and Ballet Theater near the Nedelka Fountain, the Almaty Hotel and the Panfilov pedestrian street.

Information -

Zhambyl Zhabaev (1846-1945) (Dzhambul Dzhabaev) – lived for almost a century and witnessed huge historical changes: from pre-revolutionary steppe life to the first decades of the Soviet Union. He was a real improviser, an "akin" who reflected both the joys and troubles of his people in his oral poetry. His work is imbued with epicness and deep love for his native land, he composed aitys (poetic competitions) and glorified the heroism of the Kazakhs. His work combined folk traditions, epic tales and responses to the events of his time. He praised his native land, the heroism of the Kazakh people, friendship and justice. It is no coincidence that during his lifetime Zhambyl was recognized as the "national akyn" and became a symbol of Kazakh poetry of the 20th century. A special place in Zhambyl's legacy is occupied by his works from the time of the Great Patriotic War. At that time, akyn, who was already almost a century old, inspired fighters and people with his patriotic poems. His lines "Leningraders, my children!" became a symbol of spiritual support for the residents of besieged Leningrad. Thanks to such works, Zhambyl became a truly national poet not only of Kazakhstan, but also of the entire Soviet Union. Streets, schools, universities, theaters of Kazakhstan bear the name of Zhambyl. His works have been translated into dozens of languages, and his image has become a symbol of poetic wisdom and the connection of generations.

Zhambyl Zhabayev is not only an outstanding akyn, but also a kind of "voice of the steppe", a man who, through the word, managed to unite the past, present and future of the Kazakh people. And the monument in Almaty is a living reminder of the greatness of a man whose poetry will forever remain in the hearts of people. Its monuments serve as a reminder of the power of words and art, and are also a point of attraction for tourists and cultural connoisseurs. Literary events and folk festivals are often held near his monuments.
