Hiking and trekking in Kazakhstan -

Pogrebetsky Peak is one of the iconic peaks of the Trans-Ili Alatau, named after the famous Soviet mountaineer Evgeny Pogrebetsky. He played an important role in the study and development of mountain routes in Kazakhstan, and the peak named after him became a symbol of the mountaineering history of the region. The peak is located in the Ile-Alatau National Park and has an altitude of about 4,231 meters above sea level. This is one of the most popular routes among climbers and tourists, as the ascent to it combines technical sections and routes accessible for training. The main routes to the summit start in the Tuyuk-Su glacier area from the Tuyuk-Su T1 high-mountain glaciological station or from the Tuyksu high-mountain alpine camp through the Mynzhilky mountain tract and the Tuyuk-Su Gate tract. These routes attract both experienced climbers and beginners, as they offer options with varying degrees of difficulty such as 1B, 2A, 3A. The ascent passes through glacial zones, rock scree and snow slopes. Some routes require the use of crampons, ice axes and ropes, especially in winter, when conditions become more severe.

Information -

Pogrebetsky Peak was named after the outstanding Soviet geographer, explorer and mountaineer Mikhail Pogrebetsky (1884 – 1963). He made a huge contribution to the study of the Tien Shan, organizing several expeditions to this region. Pogrebetsky was one of the first to make detailed maps of the mountain ranges and glaciers of the Tien Shan, and also studied their geological structure. Initially, the peak was called "Karlytau Peak", but in 1946, in honor of Pogrebetsky's merits, it was renamed. This decision was a tribute to the man who dedicated his life to studying and conquering mountains.
Like any mountain climb, conquering Pogrebetsky Peak requires careful preparation, it can last from 2 to 5 days or even more. Tourists and climbers need to have warm clothes, special equipment and sufficient food and water. It is best to go to the mountains with experienced guides or in a group. It is important to take into account the weather conditions, as in the highlands there can be sudden changes in temperature and snowfalls even in summer. Pogrebetskogo Peak is a place where history, nature and the spirit of mountaineering brotherhood merge. For those who are looking for a challenge, new emotions and the indescribable beauty of mountain landscapes, this ascent will be an unforgettable event.
