Tour from Lake Markakol through the Burkhat Pass to Katon-Karagay -
Burkhat is a mountain pass located at an altitude of 2141 meters above sea level, between the Sarymsakty mountain range and the Tarbagatai ridge, separating two beautiful mountain valleys. A picturesque mountain road, designed for 4x4 jeeps with high cross-country ability, runs along the pass. Caring workers of the Katon-Karagay Park built an observation deck on the pass, from which a beautiful mountain panorama opens up, and also installed signs along the road. The road that runs along the pass is mountainous, rocky with an outcrop of rock, there is no asphalt here at all. The road and the pass are surrounded by a coniferous forest, in which such trees as larch, cedar and dwarf birch grow.
The Burkhat Pass offers a stunning view of the Bukhtarma River valley and the surrounding villages. The road through the Burkhat Pass starts from the village of Urunkhaika and leads to the Ust-Kamenogorsk - Lake Rakhmanovskoye highway. Travel through the pass is possible from early June to late September. In the northeast of the pass there is a small lake Burkhat-Kol. About 3 kilometers from the Ust-Kamenogorsk - Lake Rakhmanovskoye highway, before the start of the ascent to the pass, there is a ranger post of the Katon-Karagay National Nature Park. Traveling in this region requires a special permit and identity documents.
