Mountain natural attractions in the mountains of Almaty -
Passage from the Bolshoe Almatinskoe gorge to the valley of the Kumbelsu River -
Kumbelsu Pass is a picturesque mountain pass located at an altitude of 3100 meters above sea level in the mountains of Trans–Ili Alatau on a mountain range that separates the Great Almaty Gorge and the Kumbelsu Gorge. The pass is very popular among outdoor enthusiasts, multi-day mountain hikes, climbers and travelers. The route to the pass starts from the "Moon Glade" (Shukur glade or Chukur), which is located in the Great Almaty Gorge above the Alpine Rose Hotel. An inconspicuous trail begins immediately on the left side at the entrance to the clearing, where there is an underground spring with very clean and cold water. Here it is necessary to climb the mountain head-on, the ascent is quite protracted and difficult, the path disappears in places, so it is necessary to keep the direction along the ridge upward. After reaching the ridge, the route will become easier as it will pass along the ridge and there is a good trail that will take you to the pass. The climb from the clearing to the pass can take from three to 6 hours, depending on your athletic training and the number of things you carry. Within one day, you can reach the pass and descend along the climbing path if you stay at the hotel.
If you are making a long trek through the Kumbelsu pass, for example, to the Small Almaty Gorge through the Molodezhny Pass, then you need to go down into the valley of the Kumbelsu River and reach the foot of Molodezhny Peak, where there is a small hydrologist's house surrounded by stones, the Kazselezashchita organization, next to this house there is a helicopter pad, which is clearly visible. If the cabin is vacant and there is not a large group of you, you can stay in this cabin. You can spend a couple of days in this cabin and go down the Kumbels gorge on a different route back to the Big Almaty Gorge. Mountain climbs to Molodezhny Peak and Sovetov Peak are also made from this location, or they make the transition to the Small Almaty Gorge through the Molodezhny Pass in the Mynzhylky tract and further to the Tuyuksu alpine camp and further to the Shymbulak mountain base. This route is available in the opposite direction from the beginning of the route from the Small Almaty Gorge, usually this route takes from 3 to 5 days. That is, this route and the area are full of all kinds of routes and you need to plan your trip to this mountainous area in advance, use the services of certified mountain guides who know the area well, mountain guides will prepare you for the hike and guide you safely along the route.
