Interesting places to visit in Almaty and Almaty region -

Guided city tour of Almaty -

The Military History Museum of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty is a place where history breathes on you from every stand. Located in the legendary House of Officers (House of the Army), in the heart of the city, near the park of 28 Panfilov Guards, the museum preserves within its walls the memory of military exploits - from the era of the Saka warriors to modern peacekeeping missions. The exposition presented in the museum will take you through the centuries: here is the hall of antiquity with chain mail and swords of nomads, here is a diorama of the battle for Moscow with figures of Panfilovites frozen in an immortal throw against tanks, and here are modern showcases with uniforms and equipment of Kazakhstani soldiers who participated in peacekeeping operations. Next to the museum there is another interesting museum of musical instruments named Ykylas.

The museum's exposition covers a huge historical layer – from the time of nomadic tribes and the formation of the first military formations on the territory of the Great Steppe to the modern history of independent Kazakhstan. Special attention is paid to the period of the Great Patriotic War, when hundreds of thousands of Kazakhstanis went to the front and showed unprecedented heroism. In the halls of the museum, you can see weapons, uniforms, personal belongings of soldiers and officers, awards, photographs and documents related to the exploits of Kazakhstanis at the front. Directly opposite the museum is the Memorial of Glory and the Eternal Flame.

Information -

In 1965, the Military History Museum opened its doors in Almaty, presenting an impressive collection of Soviet military equipment to the citizens and guests of the city. For the first 13 years, the museum was located in the historical building of the Central Asian Military District, which today is occupied by the Museum of Musical Instruments named after Ykylas. At the turn of the 1970s, the museum acquired a new home – a specially built House of Officers, the architectural appearance of which immediately became an ornament of the city. Since 2016, the institution has been part of the National Military-Patriotic Center of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A unique exhibition has been opened on an area of more than 2,000 square meters, allowing us to trace the evolution of Soviet-era weapons. The museum's four thematic collections represent:

- armored vehicles and weapons,
- special military equipment,
- mortar and artillery systems,
- aerial equipment.

There are 122 exhibits, among which there are rare rarities that exist in a single copy. A separate hall is dedicated to battle flags and historical weapons, where special attention is drawn to the collection of cold steel presented to the First President of Kazakhstan.

Connoisseurs of military history will be able to examine in detail the exact models of airplanes, artillery guns, boats, reconnaissance vehicles and anti-aircraft installations. The exhibition includes equipment from various branches of the armed forces, from Marines to sapper units, as well as historical documents, photographs and newspaper publications from different years.

The heart of the museum is a large-scale exposition dedicated to the legendary 316th Infantry Division under the command of Major General I.V. Panfilov. Here you can see the diorama "Battle for Moscow", relics from the Brest fortress and personal belongings of soldiers.

A separate Hall of Fame preserves the memory of Kazakhstanis who participated in the Afghan War. Their photographs, awards and personal belongings form a poignant chronicle of heroic deeds and self–sacrifice.
