Dinmukhamed Kunaev (1912-1993) three times Hero of Socialist Labor, headed the Kazakh SSR for more than 25 years. He served as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, and it was during his years that the republic received a powerful impetus for development. New enterprises, roads, villages and towns were built under him, and science and culture were actively developing. He was a man who managed to combine state power and the interests of the people, which earned him the sincere love and respect of Kazakhstanis. His monument stands surrounded by trees that he loved so much – it was under Kunaevz that the city was surrounded by greenery, for which it is still called the "garden by the mountains." Flowers are constantly brought to the monument – not only on memorial days, but also just like that, from the bottom of my heart.
