Kumbelsu River is a picturesque mountain river, located at an altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, flows through the Kumbelsu gorge and flows into the Big Almaty River, which originates from the Big Almaty Lake, which further flows down the Big Almaty Gorge. The Kumbelsu River is very popular as it flows through a picturesque mountainous area, which is full of various kinds of mountain routes and trails. The river originates on moraine glaciers and lakes surrounded by mountain peaks such as Molodezhny Peak and Sovetov Peak. To get to the upper reaches of the river, one usually goes through the Kumbelsu pass from the Big Almaty Gorge, the beginning of the route starts from the Moon Glade (Shukur glade or Chukur). You can also get to the river valley from the Tuyuksu alpine camp in the Small Almaty Gorge through the Molodezhny pass. There is a small hydrologist's house in the upper reaches of the river, where an employee of Kazselezashchita (selezashchita) works in the summer. In the area of the lodge, you can set up a tent camp for staying in the valley and relaxing before further traveling along a pre-selected route.

The Kumbelsu River is located near the city of Almaty in the Ile Alatau Park and flows through the Kumbelsu Gorge, Bostandyk district, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan.
