Excursion from the Great Almaty Gorge to the upper reaches of the Kumbelsu River -

Kumbelsu Gorge is a picturesque mountain gorge located at altitudes from 2200 to 3500 meters above sea level in the mountains of the Trans–Ili Alatau between Gorelnik Gorge, Small Almaty Gorge and Big Almaty Gorge. The gorge is very popular among lovers of outdoor activities and hiking in the mountains. Hiking in this gorge can start in different places, it all depends on the route you choose. Usually, the gorge is reached through the Kumbelsu pass from the Big Almaty Gorge in the area of the Alpine Rose hotel. There is also another trail that starts on the road over the bridge over the Kumbelsu River on the way to the Big Almaty Lake, where the forester's house is located nearby. The third route starts from the Small Almaty Gorge in the area of the Tuyuksu alpine camp and passes through the Molodezhny pass. In the upper reaches of the Kumbelsu gorge there is a small house of hydrologists, the organization Kazselezashchita (spleen protection), where an employee of the organization is on duty in the summer. They usually stay here for the night. The upper reaches of the gorge are also used by climbers as a starting point for hiking to such mountain peaks as Molodezhny Peak and Sovetov Peak. This area is quite extensive, the route to this gorge can take from 2 to 5 days, depending on your wishes and preferences. This route is also accessible from both the small Almaty Gorge and the Large Almaty Gorge in both directions. There is a one-day route from the Alpine Rose Hotel to the Kumbels Pass to take a look at the gorge and the surrounding mountain peaks from the pass. The pass offers a mountain panorama of the Kumbels River, which flows through the gorge, Titov Peak, Bolshoe Almatinsky Lake, Big Almaty Peak, Tourist Peak, Rocky Peak (Mount Yumba, triangle), Dzhusaly-Kezen Pass, Space Station, Tian-Shan Astronomical Observatory and the attractions listed above such as Sovetov Peak, Molodezhny Peak and Molodezhny pass.
