Unique architectural complex of the Aral region -
Tolybay Batyr Mausoleum is an original memorial and natural ensemble located in the Kazaly district of the Kyzylorda region. This grandiose sacred site dates back to the 19th century and catches the attention of pilgrims with its profound spiritual content, being an essential architectural monument from the era of defending the steppe frontiers. Not so far from the mausoleum is the picturesque Lake Kamystybas (Kambash).

Tolybay Batyr Mausoleum is located on the shore of Lake Kotankol, 6.7 km north of the village of Bekarystan Bi, Kazaly district, Kyzylorda region, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The transport logistics of this wild region completely exclude urban public transport. No regular buses or city taxi services operate here. You can reach the historical mazar from the village of Bekarystan Bi in just 15–20 minutes, covering about 7 kilometers along steppe roads.
Only a prepared four-wheel-drive SUV is suitable for the trip, as difficult dirt and sand paths lead to the monument, requiring off-road driving experience. Drivers must carry an additional supply of fuel, drinking water, navigators, and communication devices.
Opening hours: The territory of the monument is open for visits around the clock and all year round. Access to the adjacent territory is completely free; there are no ticket offices, admission fees, or paid checkpoints here.
It is recommended to plan a trip to this region for the spring or early autumn period to avoid extreme summer heat and sandstorms. All tent camps and parking sites are organized by tourists independently under expedition conditions, adhering to the respectful rules of conduct on the territory of cult sites and ancestral cemeteries.

History
The history of this sacred place is inextricably linked with the name of the legendary Tolybay Batyr, who was born and lived in 1780–1869. Tolybay Batyr was an outstanding military leader and a brave defender who took an active part in numerous military campaigns, defending the independence of his lands and becoming famous for his exceptional courage in steppe battles. Following his passing in the 19th century, comrades-in-arms and descendants erected a monumental mazar on the territory of the ancestral necropolis, which became a symbol of military valor.
The first scientific description of this architectural structure was carried out by specialists of the "Kazproektrestavratsiya" Institute in 1986, and in 2003, the site was officially taken under state protection.
Over the past decades, the upper surface of the mausoleum has suffered severely from atmospheric influences. Since the main building material of the structure was raw mudbrick (adobe), which is unstable against heavy precipitation, the walls and domed slopes underwent partial destruction, and a part of the portal masonry fell out on the main facade. Despite the damage, this site is officially included in the lists of the sacred geography of the region, embodying an era of courage and loyalty to military duty.

The architectural solution of the mausoleum was based on the authentic principles of portal-domed sacred architecture of the lower reaches of the Syr Darya of the 19th century. The strict single-chamber layout of the internal walls is combined with a massive parabolic dome and rectangular bricks with dimensions of 9x14x33 cm.
The highlight of this steppe engineering was the use of local materials: the walls and the dome were built of raw mudbrick (adobe) mixed according to ancient recipes with the addition of organic fibers.
