The Triumphal Arch "Mangilik El"

A majestic symbol of modern Kazakhstan in the heart of the capital -

The Mangilik El Triumphal Arch, which translates as "Eternal Nation", was solemnly opened on December 16, 2011, in the capital of Kazakhstan, the city of Astana. This ambitious project was implemented at the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the republic's independence.

The height of the structure is a symbolic 20 meters, although the total height, including the upper superstructure, reaches 21.5 meters. The architectural appearance of the arch is made in a classical style, but every detail is filled with deep national meaning. Near the arch is the Botanical Garden of the capital.

The proportions of the building are built according to the "golden ratio" principle, which creates visual harmony and allows the monument to dominate the avenue, maintaining visibility throughout its length. Not far from the monument are Linear Park and Astana Arena.

Today, Mangilik El is not just a monument, but a multifunctional cultural space. Inside the arch are exhibition halls and multimedia kiosks that tell the story of the formation of Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, and modern Astana.

It is a place of attraction for tourists who want to see the capital from a bird's-eye view and touch the latest history of the state.

Information

The arch construction is made of noble materials – granite and white marble. The width of the structure is 13 meters. The facades are decorated with complex Kazakh ornaments and bas-reliefs.

On the north side (entrance from the airport), the arch is decorated with figures of an Aksakal (a symbol of wisdom and spirituality) and a Mother-Woman (guardian of the hearth and the Motherland). Below them is the solar sign "Eternity" – an ancient Turkic amulet.

On the south side (exit from the city), figures of an ancient warrior-batyr and a modern serviceman are installed, which emphasizes the continuity of generations and reliable protection of the state. Side niches are decorated with copies of the famous "Tai-kazan" from the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, symbolizing unity and hospitality.

Detailed description of the object

The inner space of the arch is divided into several thematic zones. Climbing the stairs, visitors see the permanent photo exhibition "History of the City". Four relief panels are installed on the walls inside the span.

One of them, "Uly Kosh" (The Great Migration), illustrates the path of the Kazakh nation through the eras of the Sakas, Turks, and Kipchaks. Another panel is dedicated to Independence and the Declaration of State Sovereignty, also depicting modern symbols of Astana – Akorda and Bayterek.

Of particular significance is the inscription "Mangilik El" on the front part. This is not just a name, but a national idea and a political course for the country's development. The composition is crowned with the symbolism of the state flag: the sun and a soaring eagle, personifying freedom and flight into the future. Five touch kiosks with programs "Multimedia Capital" and "Triumphal Arches of the World" operate in the exhibition hall.

Architecture

The Mangilik El project combines European classics and Eastern grace. The four corners of the arch are flanked by columns, giving it monumentality. Above on the side walls, you can see "Kalkan" shields, symbolizing resilience and victory. The design of the arch opening line is unique: it is not strictly Eastern or Western, representing a synthesis of cultures. A well-thought-out lighting system at night emphasizes every detail of the ornament, making the arch one of the most beautiful night dominant features of the city.

Legend and conclusion

People say that the Triumphal Arch of Astana is an amulet of the nation. It is believed that every resident passing through it is charged with the energy of creation.
There is a legend that if you look closely at the faces of the batyrs "guarding day and night," you can feel peace for the future of the country.

The monument has become a golden bridge between the historical past and the futuristic future of the country, embodying the success of the young republic recognized by the international community.
