Astana Opera in Nur-Sultan city
Astana Opera in Nur-Sultan city the capital of Kazakhstan
The State Opera and Ballet Theater “Astana-Opera” is a theater in Nur-Sultan, founded on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The theater building, built in 2013, is recognized as an architectural monument of national importance.
The building was completed in less than three years. Construction was carried out in 2010-2013 and cost $ 320 million. A team of architects, builders and specialists from 33 countries worked on the appearance and interiors of the theater. President Nursultan Nazarbayev constantly made his own adjustments to the project, including at the practical implementation stage. So, at his suggestion, the height of the main theater foyer was increased. The floor, walls, decorative panels and twisted marble staircases of this lobby are decorated with Sicilian marble.
The group was formed through competitive selection. The jury, which, among others, included representatives of such major theaters as La Scala, the Bolshoi and Mariinsky, was engaged in the selection of orchestra, singers and dancers. The first performance was given on June 21, 2013 - Mukan Tulebayev's opera Birzhan and Sara was performed.
Initially, the theater functioned as a joint stock company.
At the end of 2014, Nursultan Nazarbayev changed the head of the theater: instead of T. Mukhamedzhanov, T. Alpiev became the director. In March 2015, Altynai Asylmuratov, a prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theater, was invited to the position of artistic director of the ballet, and conductor Alan Buribayev was appointed as the chief conductor.
