The Belaya Berel River (Ak Berel, White Berel) is a beautiful mountain river, located at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, originates on the southern slope of Mount Belukha (Muztau), the river is fed by mountain glaciers. Traveling through the Katon-Karagay Park, you will definitely see this beautiful river and cross it on one of the bridges thrown across the river. The river is a right tributary of the no less picturesque Bukhtarma River. The length of the river is 65 kilometers, the river is fed by the Black Berel River, the Kokkol River, the Arasan River and the Yazevaya River, which flows out of Lake Yazevoe, which is also one of the natural attractions of the park. The famous village of Berel is located on the river.

There are many tourist routes in the upper reaches of the Belaya Berel River. On the Kokkol River, which is a tributary of the river, Belaya Berel, there is a beautiful Kokkol waterfall. Pine, cypress, poplar and birch forests grow in the river valley. To be in the Katon-Karagay Nature Park, you must obtain a permit in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, you must also attach a route sheet indicating the points of stay and a detailed description of the route. This territory is adjacent to the border with Russia, so for staying here and traveling, documents are required for being in the border zone. At present, crossing from Kazakhstan to Russia via mountain trails is impossible, as there is no checkpoint there.
