BAIKONUR CITY
Unique administrative-territorial formation that has no analogues in the world. Located in the bend of the Syr Darya River, it lives and functions under conditions of a long-term lease by the Russian Federation from the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The city was founded in 1955 as the Zarya working settlement, and later bore the name Leninsk, serving as the main research and residential center to ensure the operation of the first planetary Baikonur Cosmodrome. All of its infrastructure, architecture, and rhythm of life are inextricably linked with the conquest of the Universe and the space launch schedule into space, turning this steppe oasis into a living monument of the great space era.

What must you see in the city? -

Baikonur Museum of History -
It is the main guardian of the memory regarding the formation of the famous space center. Its expositions tell in detail about the construction of the first launch pads, the lifestyle of the pioneers, and the development of the urban infrastructure. Unique archival documents, historical photographs, and personal belongings of the cosmodrome creators are gathered here.

Cosmonauts Alley -
It represents a unique natural and historical monument and a crucial symbolic place. The tradition was laid by Yuri Gagarin, who planted the first tree here – a mighty Tree No. 1 – during one of his visits to the city. Since then, each cosmonaut before being sent to orbit plants a named tree on the alley.

Yuri Gagarin Monument in Baikonur -
Dedicated to the first man to conquer outer space. The monument depicts the Soviet cosmonaut in full growth with hands stretched upward, which symbols humanity's breakthrough to the stars and the triumph of science. The figure of the first conqueror of the Universe is installed on a high pedestal in a picturesque square, which is a popular place for walks of residents and guests of the city.

Yuri Gagarin Gazebo -
It is one of the most iconic historical places in the city. First Locomotive of the Cosmodrome -

Bust of Academician Mikhail Kuzmich Yangel and the SS-20 Missile -
The memorial complex is supplemented by the famous engineering brain-child of the scientist – the SS-20 strategic missile. Mikhail Kuzmich was an outstanding Soviet designer, the creator of the unique Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, and the founder of a new direction in rocket production. The installed bust and the powerful missile located nearby clearly demonstrate the greatness of the master's technical thought and his huge role in ensuring defense capability.

Bust of Chief Designer Academician Sergei Pavlovich Korolev -
Occupies a place of honor in the city and expresses recognition of the greatest merits of the scientist. Under the direct leadership of Sergei Pavlovich, the first artificial satellite of the Earth was launched and Yuri Gagarin was sent on his flight. The monument reflects deep respect for the man who actually gave the world the space era. The expressive facial features of the designer convey his iron will and dedication.

Bust of Abai Kunanbayev -
It is an important cultural site and symbols deep respect for the historical and literary heritage of Kazakhstan, on whose land the space complex is located. The monument to the great Kazakh poet, philosopher, and educator reminds of the importance of spirituality, enlightenment, and friendship between peoples.

Soyuz Spacecraft Model -
It represents an exact full-size copy of the legendary manned apparatus. This monument clearly demonstrates the design of the ship on which cosmonauts from different countries of the world have been flying into near-Earth orbit for many decades. Examining the model, one can evaluate the dimensions of the descent apparatus and the instrument-assembly compartment in detail.

Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious -
It is the main spiritual center of this space harbor. The beautiful white-stone building with golden domes harmoniously complements the architectural appearance of the city. The church plays an important role in local life, becoming a traditional place of visit for many crews and cosmodrome staff before responsible launches.

BAIKONUR COSMODROME (SPACEPORT)
It is the world's first and largest operational cosmodrome, which became the cradle of world cosmonautics. Erected among the endless semi-desert steppes of the Kyzylorda region, this colossal scientific and technical complex ensured the launch of the first artificial satellite of the Earth and the legendary flight of Yuri Gagarin. The facility includes an extensive network of launch complexes, measuring stations, assembly and testing buildings, and access tracks. The life of the cosmodrome is inextricably linked with the space launch schedule into space.

What must you see at the cosmodrome? -

Pad No. 110 -
It represents a large-scale launch complex that was created for the implementation of the Soviet N1-L3 lunar program, and later modernized for the Energia-Buran project. This facility includes massive launch structures, powerful cable-fueling towers, and the most complex engineering communications.

Energia Command Post -
It is a unique protected underground structure from which direct management of the launch of the Energia super-heavy rocket with the Buran spacecraft was carried out. This bunker was designed to withstand colossal loads in the event of an accident at launch. Inside, operational halls with control panels, monitoring devices, and complex life support systems have been preserved.

Saturn Radio Complex -
Served as an essential radio-technical hub providing reliable communication, telemetry, and trajectory measurements at the most responsible stages of space flights. Its powerful antenna systems and equipment advanced for its time received signals from manned ships and interplanetary stations.

Gagarin's Start Pad No. 1 and Pad No. 31 -
They are legendary launch complexes from which humanity paved its way to the stars. Pad No. 1 forever entered world history as the place from which Yuri Gagarin launched in April 1961 on the Vostok ship. Pad No. 31 was built as a backup, but over time it took upon itself a colossal volume of manned and cargo launches.

Baikonur Cosmodrome Museum -
It is the richest treasury of authentic rarities of the space era. In its spacious halls and open areas, unique exhibits are gathered, including elements of rocket engines, spacesuits of the first cosmonauts, lunar rovers, and personal belongings of great scientists.

Houses of Gagarin and Korolev -
They represent modest wooden structures that have preserved the authentic atmosphere of the great Soviet era. In one of them, Yuri Gagarin spent his last night before the epochal launch, and in the neighboring one, Chief Designer Sergei Korolev lived and worked intensely.

Buran museum-spacecraft -
It is a real orbital spaceplane turned into a unique interactive museum complex. This ship represents the pinnacle of the Soviet reusable space program and the triumph of aerodynamic thought of engineers. Guests can climb aboard the legendary shuttle, look into the cargo bay, and even visit inside the cockpit with authentic control instruments.

Yubileyniy Airfield -
Was built as a specialized extra-class airfield with a unique reinforced runway for receiving the Soviet Buran space shuttle. This huge runway was created using advanced technologies to ensure perfect accuracy and safety when landing the reusable ship in automatic mode.
