Tour from Almaty to Zhetysu region -
Zhetysu region is a real treasure for the traveler: mountains, lakes, ancient shrines, dunes and steppes. Wild nature and rich heritage have been preserved here, so a trip to Zhetysu always turns into a discovery of something new. "Zhetysu" in Kazakh means "7 rivers", this list includes such rivers as the Ili River, the Karatal River, the Biyen River, the Aksu River, the Lepsy River, the Baskan River and the Sarkand River. The heart of the region is the city of Taldykorgan, also in the region there is the city of Zharkent, in which the famous "Dungan Mosque" is located, the city of Tekeli and the city of Sarkand. In the mountainous part there are such interesting villages as: the village of Lepsi (Lepsinsk), the village of "Kapal", they are located in the mountains of the Dzungarian Alatau, which are also one of the main attractions of the region. The main natural reservoir in the region is Lake Alakol on the banks of which there are many recreation centers and boarding houses.
Altyn-Emel National Park in Zhetysu region -
If you are attracted by protected areas, reserves and nature parks of Kazakhstan, then you should definitely visit the Altyn-Emel National Nature Park in Zhetysu region. Here is the famous "Singing Dune" (Akkum Kalkan), also known as the "Singing Dune" or "Ringing Sand". People come here to listen to the sand singing and recharge their batteries. The Ili River flows through the park, on the banks of which you can have a great rest, fish, spend time, and visit many attractions, such as: images of Buddha on the Ili River, or visit the scenery for the film "Nomads" where you can take atmospheric photos against the backdrop of the ancient city.
The white mountains of Aktau and the lava mountains of Katutau also attract travelers with their unusual appearance and color. In one day, you can visit both of these natural sites. Aktau is layers of chalk and limestone of different colors, which give them an unusual magical look. The Katutau Mountains are the oldest lava mountains that appeared here after the eruption of a pale volcano in ancient times, several million years ago. Both places are very atmospheric, people come here to take photos and shoot atmospheric videos. The best time to visit is in the morning or evening at sunset, when the mountains acquire the most fantastic shade. Also, in the park you can visit the famous tree Aulie-Agash, a sacred willow tree which is 700 years old and which is located in the Kosbastau tract. Nearby is the famous water spring with healing water named after Chokan Valikhanov.
If you are interested in archeology in the park, you can visit the famous Saka burial mounds Besshatyr, the tombs of the great khans and the stone steles of Oshaktas. A little on the other side is the majestic and sacred place and sanctuary of Kalakai. Here in a very picturesque place, you will see a huge granite boulder surrounded by smaller stones. They say it was an ancient observatory or a huge stone sundial.
Zhongar-Alatau National Park of Zhetysu Region -
Another equally famous and frequently visited place in Zhetysu Region is Zhongar-Alatau National Park, which is famous for being the birthplace of the wild Sievers apple tree, which grows wild on the territory of the park. Botanists come here specifically for a botanical tour for the Sievers apple tree to see this beauty in person. They usually come in the spring to see the apple tree bloom, when it is covered with white, pink and red flowers, or in the fall, when the trees are covered with ripe apples.
The Park is also famous for the fact that on its territory in the Korinsky Gorge (Kora) is located the largest waterfall in Kazakhstan, the Burkhan-Bulak waterfall. Here, the picturesque mountain river Kora flows through the gorge, and at the beginning of the gorge is the famous Tekeli Stupa (Buddhist Stupa). These places are very good for jeep tours, as the places here are difficult to pass with mountain roads and are accessible only in the summer, the month of July and August. In the mountains of the Dzungarian Alatau, you can visit such natural and archaeological attractions as: the ancient settlement of Bayan-Zurek, which is located in the Bayan-Zurek Mountains. These are incredibly beautiful and little-visited places, here you will not find crowds of tourists and any tourist infrastructure, the places are absolutely wild, therefore, they attract connoisseurs of secluded relaxation away from civilization. In this area there is the Uygentas mound (stone hill), which is also a local archaeological attraction. You can also visit the ancient settlement of Talapty, the ruins of the ancient city of Almalyk, the ancient city of Koylyk or the settlement of Tasbas in the Bayan-Zurek Mountains.
